Three major galleries in Tokyo will be featured in the group exhibition “LIFE × ART on paper works” at Spiral Garden (Spiral 1F, Shibuya) from August 5, 2023 (Saturday). 

biscuit gallery、GALLERY HAYASHI+ART BRIDGE、TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY will participate in “LIFE × ART on paper works”.

This exhibition introduces artists who experiment with various forms of expression using the medium of paper.
The term “on paper works” encompasses a wide variety of expressions, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and editioned works. Since artists have long used paper for simple sketches and ideas for their works, it is a medium that has the potential to bring us even closer to the artist’s inner self.
In this exhibition, 16 artists from 3 galleries will present their works. Please take this opportunity to view the diversity and possibilities of paper as an artistic medium.

biscuit gallery (Shibuya, Tokyo), a commercial contemporary art gallery on Shoto Bunkamura Street in Shibuya, is pleased to announce the duo show “silence and innocence” featuring artists Yukino Yamanaka and Yosuke Yamanouchi.

The exhibition will be on view from August 17 to September 3, 2023.

Yukino Yamanaka and Yosuke Yamanouchi have been continuing to work at a tremendous pace in the last few years. The exhibition will bring the two artists together in a shared dialogue to be seen in the brushstrokes of their works.

Artist Profile

Sawako Nasu

1996　Born in Tokyo
2021　Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Painting      Department, Oil Painting Course
2023　Received Master’s Degree from Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts with a major in Oil Painting (First Research Laboratory).

Sawako Nasu uses the language of painting to talk about distance, connection, and relationships. When reflecting on her own work, Nasu says, “How can I come in touch with paintings of the past?” Underlying Nasu’s work is a sense of the absolute, unbridgeable distance that lies between the classical and modernist paintings she admires, as well as that which lies between their times and herself today. It is this sense of distance that gives her art its thorough vision.
Nasu’s approach to the possibilities of painting, anchored in contrasting the era of classical painting with the era to which she belongs to as a contemporary artist, goes beyond the scope of her personal interests and reflects a current awareness of what is possible at the edge of art history, a site of constant renewal.

biscuit gallery is pleased to present Yosuke Yamanouchi’s solo exhibition “sixth sense”, starting from April 27th through May 14th, 2023. 

It has been about six months since Yamanouchi had his solo exhibition at CANDYBAR Gallery Kyoto in October, 2022, and this exhibition will be the biggest solo show for him, using 3 floors of biscuit gallery.

We will show over 30 latest works including the works from his signature series “skin,” abstract works and portrait works in the exhibition.

You can experience Yamanouchi’s world, through the work from his signature series to his new series, all at once in this exhibition. Please look forward to it.
