biscuit gallery, a contemporary art commercial gallery located on Shibuya Shoto Culture Street in Shibuya Ward, will hold its first open call exhibition “grid next : Emerging Artists Showcase” in August 2024.

 

biscuit gallery has been actively introducing promising young contemporary art artists from within Japan. In 2024, we will actively expand internationally under the slogan “Global Action.”
We are committed to actively promoting engagement with contemporary art artists who can thrive not only domestically but globally.

This exhibition “grid next” is an open call initiative aimed at artists who have not previously exhibited at biscuit gallery, welcoming applications from art school students and artists.

The display format is the same as the anniversary exhibition “grid”, where multiple works by one artist are displayed on a single wall. We plan to feature approximately 25 artists across biscuit gallery’s 3 floors.

Additionally, among the participating artists, we have arranged for 3 selected artists to hold solo exhibitions.

We invite all artists to apply.

Exhibition Dates: August 10 (Sat.) – August 25 (Sun.), 2024 ※Planned
Installation: August 8 (Thurs.), August 9 (Fri.)

【Application Overview】
Application: Please fill out the application form.
Planned number of exhibiting artists: Approximately 25
Application Period: January 1, 2024 – May 31, 2024 ※Applications closed
Selection Results: Applicants will be notified by late June ※Screening is conducted on an ongoing basis, and successful applicants will be contacted as soon as possible.

【Application Requirements】
・Follow biscuit gallery on Instagram
・Visual artists aspiring to become professionals with no previous exhibition history at biscuit gallery
・Students or individuals approximately 40 years of age or younger
・2D artists, 3D artists, video artists, etc., whose works can be displayed at biscuit gallery (Shibuya)
・For domestic residents: the artist or a representative must be able to participate in installation and collect/remove works after the exhibition period. ※Collection planned for August 26.
・Submit a CV including images of planned display works or reference images close to the displayed works, as well as an artist statement
・Submitted works must be new, previously unpublished pieces available for sale
・Display location during the exhibition is at the discretion of the gallery
・No application or exhibition fees

【Special Prizes】
Based on voting by visitors, user response rates on SNS, and screening by biscuit gallery directors, 3 interested exhibiting artists will be selected to hold a solo exhibition on one floor of biscuit gallery.
※Planned as “SOLO SOLO SOLO,” scheduled to open from December 2024 onwards.

【Notes】
・Copyright of submitted works belongs to the applicants. However, the organizer is free to use images of submitted works for promotional purposes, etc.
・Conditions regarding sales of displayed works will follow biscuit gallery’s standard contract.
