This time, biscuit gallery will hold a solo exhibition “fictional reality” by Eri Fukami starting Thursday, May 5, 2022.
We will present new paintings with “fiction” as the theme. The exhibition venue is on the 3rd floor of biscuit gallery.
Eri Fukami explores and practices painting, and painting that is possible for herself living in the present day, taking into account not only the genealogy of art but also her own era, society, and culture. She states that many of her works depicting simple-faced figures that evoke a sense of naive charm are depictions of personal worlds—events in her daily life, relationships with family and others, love, and dreams she has seen.
Fukami’s approach of capturing the doubts and realizations in daily life, the ambiguous and subtle movements of the inner world that we face as we live each day, and rendering them into paintings infused with fantasy, will evoke expressionist painters such as Kirchner and Munch. However, rather than standing on the side of narrating the genealogy of art, she takes the position of a person living life itself, much like Hellenistic literature that sings of love and the laws of nature, with the motto of presenting the reality that exists there as painting. It is precisely because of this that Fukami’s works resonate with the sensibilities of her contemporaries and may possess the power to become an opportunity for us to contemplate daily life anew.

Currently enrolled in the Oil Painting Department at Tokyo University of the Arts
Creating work with “the dwelling place of the heart” in relation to oneself and the world as the theme.
What is it that creates human consciousness? In a certain moment, we feel déjà vu. We see landscapes repeated over and over again in our dreams. We are moved by encountering “something.” Without our realizing it, the heart, emotion, and memory teach us the “dwelling place of the world” more accurately than ourselves.

「fiction」을 테마로 신작 페인팅을 발표합니다. 전시 회장은 biscuit gallery의 3층 플로어입니다.
フカミエリ는 회화에 대해, 그리고 현대를 살아가는 자신에게 가능한 회화에 대해, 미술의 계보뿐만 아니라 자신의 시대, 사회, 문화를 바탕으로 하며 모색하고 실천하고 있습니다. 심플한 얼굴, 어딘가 어설픈 느낌의 흐름을 감지시키는 인물이 그려진 작품 많은 것들은, 작가의 주변 일상, 가족이나 타인과의 관계, 사랑이나 자신이 본 꿈이라는 개인적인 세계를 그린 것이라고 본인이 말합니다.
일상에서의 의문점이나 깨달음, 우리가 일상적으로 살아가면서 마주하게 되는 모호하고 미묘한 내면의 운동을 포착하고, 나아가 환상성을 섞인 회화화하는 フカミエリ의 태도는, Kirchner나 Munch와 같은 표현주의 화가들을 연상시킬 것입니다. 하지만 본인은 미술의 계보를 이야기하는 쪽에 서기보다는, 오히려 사랑과 자연의 섭리를 노래한 헬레니즘 문학처럼 어디까지나 생활자의 입장에 서서, 그곳에 있는 리얼리티를 회화로서 제시하는 것을 좌우명으로 합니다. 그렇기 때문에, フカミエリ의 작품은 동시대의 감성에 응하며, 일상을 새롭게 관조하게 하는 계기가 되는 힘을 가지지 않을까요.
자신과 세계에 있어서 「마음의 소재」를 테마로 제작하고 있습니다.
인간의 의식을 만드는 것이 무엇일까요. 어떤 순간에 데자뷔를 느끼거나. 꿈 속에서 여러 번 반복되는 풍경을 보거나. 「어떤 것」을 만나 감동하거나. 우리가 의식하지 않아도. 마음이, 감정이, 기억이, 나보다도 더 정확하게 「세계의 소재」를 알려줍니다.
