Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1996
Graduated from the Oil Painting Course, Nagoya University of Arts in 2019
Completed the Oil Painting Specialization, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2021
Yosuke Yamanouchi creates works by facing the history and structure of painting itself directly and attempting to draw out all of its possibilities.
His approach, which quotes classical paintings while applying subtle yet bold modifications, recalls the stance of avant-garde artists, Dadaists, and Surrealists, but his works go further still, making reference to the material nature of painting itself.
Just as Russian Avant-Garde artists once created the concept of factura, paying attention to surface treatment and effects in painting, Yamanouchi, as seen in his “Epidermis Series,” does not confine painting to a simple discussion of imagery.
