Concept
I carve and pare away wood. This primitive act is less about creating form and more akin to gradually discovering something hidden within the wood. The human figures that emerge from the traces of carving are not of any specific individual, but rather the image of human existence itself. Simultaneously, it is also a reflection of myself appearing through the act of carving. Stacked stones placed overhead demonstrate a state of equilibrium that exists despite its instability. Humans too exist while maintaining balance within various relationships. Sculpture preserves the quiet appearance of this equilibrium while simultaneously serving as a place for viewers to contemplate their own existence.
