Artist Statement
I am committed to revealing the fragility of life and the various events that occur within this fragility. By freely moving between grid paper sketches, easel paintings, and textile works, I inscribe precious sensory experiences that I wish to preserve onto supports as thin as cicada wings. The essence of life where “impermanence” and “meaning” coexist has always fascinated and puzzled me. Through my work, I hope to express that conflicting state of being “both nothing and everything,” “both momentary and eternal,” “vanishing yet intoxicatingly beautiful.”
My work is broadly divided into three series:
First, colored pencil drawings on grid paper. This is my essential method for quickly recording momentary sensations. Upon the order created by horizontal and vertical lines, I freely draw shapes, sometimes following the lines, sometimes intentionally deviating from them. I gaze at moments in daily life that make me acutely sensitive: the texture of water touching my fingertips while swimming, body warmth during an embrace, occasional anxiety—these intense sensations that make me truly feel my own existence are all recorded here. In moments of focusing on these sensations, I most vividly experience the reality of “being alive.” In that instant, countless stories are condensed, simplified, and transformed into symbols.
Second, acrylic paintings. Painting creates a depth of color and sense of space that sketches cannot achieve. I linger before the canvas longer than when drawing sketches, returning to the moment when sensations first emerged. The soft texture brought by two layers of thin cotton cloth, combined with layered transparent paint, guides me to continuously approach the source of sensation.
Third, fiber works that cut and sew semi-transparent fabrics such as “Nobang” (thin gauze) or “Oksa” (silk gauze). The fabric actively enters the viewer’s space, envelops their body, and creates a flowing rhythm. This extremely thin material is well-suited to expressing states that are “present yet illusory,” “visible yet ambiguous.” In textile works, iconography has more defined boundaries and is fixed in a specific place by needle and thread.
These three methods complement each other and combine organically. They point to the same destination: “to reveal the fragility of life and thereby evoke moments that deserve deeper blessing.” Through exhibitions, I hope to present these moments before the audience.

나는 생명의 연약함, 그리고 그 연약함 속에서 일어나는 여러 사건들을 드러내는 데 집중한다. 모눈종이 드로잉, 회화, 그리고 직물 작업을 자유롭게 오가며, 간직하고 싶은 소중한 감각적 경험들을 얇디얇은 지지체 위에 하나하나 새긴다. “무상함”과 “의미”가 공존하는 생명의 본질은 언제나 나를 매혹시키고 또 혼란스럽게 한다. 작업을 통해 “무(nothing)이면서 동시에 전부(everything)”, “순간이면서 영원”, “사라지고 있지만 아름다워 도취될 수밖에 없는” 그런 충돌 상태를 표현하고자 한다.
내 작업은 크게 세 가지 시리즈로 나뉜다.
첫째, 모눈종이 위의 색연필 드로잉. 이것은 순간적 감각을 빠르게 기록하는 나의 필수적인 방식이다. 수평과 수직 선으로 구성된 질서 위에서 나는 형태를 자유롭게 그려나간다. 때로는 선을 따르고, 때로는 의도적으로 벗어난다. 일상 속에서 나를 예민하게 만드는 순간들을 응시한다: 수영할 때 손끝이 물에 닿는 질감, 포옹할 때의 체온, 문득 밀려오는 불안—이 모든 것이 내가 존재함을 생생하게 느끼게 하는 강렬한 감각들이며 여기에 기록된다. 이러한 감각에 집중하는 순간, 나는 “삶”의 실감을 가장 잘 느낀다. 그 순간 수많은 이야기들이 압축되고 단순화되어 기호로 전환된다.
