Rhapsody of Phantoms

At biscuit gallery, a contemporary art commercial gallery located on Shibuya Ward Shoto Culture Street (Shibuya Ward Shoto), a three-person exhibition “Rhapsody of Phantoms” featuring contemporary art artists Hal Osawa, Yurina Okada, and Erika Naka will be held.

The exhibition runs from November 2 (Thursday) to November 19 (Sunday), 2023.

The collaborative work “Caerus” by Osawa, Okada, and Naka used in the main visual is a word meaning “opportunity” and “a moment in time.”

What is common to the three artists’ creative processes is that their techniques and selected motifs are momentary in nature. In this exhibition, the three artists exchanged ideas with each other to compose the display.

Hal Osawa | 大澤巴瑠

Born 1997, Tokyo
2020 Graduated from the Oil Painting Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tama Art University
2022 Completed Master’s Program, Graduate School of Art, Kyoto University of the Arts

I intentionally introduce bugs into the act of “reproduction.” Through this act, what was supposed to be a copy transforms into a different original on the printed material. By reproducing digital copies with analog means, I create works that entrust the ambiguity of value to the work and visualize it. (Hal Osawa)

Yurina Okada | 岡田佑里奈

Born 1995, Hyogo Prefecture
2018 Graduated from Kyoto University of the Arts
2020 Completed Master’s Program, Kyoto University of the Arts

Yurina Okada’s works traverse the realms of painting and photography, posing questions about the possibilities of flat art that should exist for the next generation.

Erika Naka | 仲衿香

Born 1994, Nagano Prefecture
2019 Graduated from Tokyo Zokei University, Painting Major

Creates works featuring symbols and objects from daily life incorporated into paintings, characterized by thick application of acrylic paint.
