Concept

Takebayashi creates paintings by observing natural phenomena around her—such as the reflection of light shimmering on the water surface of a murmuring stream and the patterns visible on rock surfaces—and incorporating them into her canvas work.

Here, irregularly wavering lines, shapes, and colors interact with each other to bring movement to the picture plane.
The layering of brushstrokes evokes the fleeting passage of time contained within the work, and like a window reflecting a distant landscape, the painting space invites the imagination toward the expanse beyond.

The ceramic tile works created alongside her paintings reveal an active dialogue with difficult-to-control reactions that arise in the creative process through repeated experimental attempts in shaping clay and applying glazes.
