Concept
Born in Fukuoka in 1996, raised in Brussels.
Completed Master’s degree in Printmaking at Urbino Academy of Fine Arts in 2021.
Participated in Koganecho AIR from 2022 to 2024.
After spending years studying and gaining experience in painting, sculpture, and etching, I found myself returning to drawing (close to “picture-drawing” in Japanese).
This ranges from daily sketches to drawing with thick oil pastels, pens, watercolor ink, and pencils on paper, wood, and unconventional supports, as well as murals, portraits, performative live painting, and independent publishing activities.
My central concern is humanity, and by placing human forms within scenes that convey stories through color, texture, and form, I consider myself a narrative figurative painter.
The subjects of my paintings are influenced by personal experiences and imagination, as well as photographs found on the internet and in printed materials. I prioritize what emerges naturally and seek to balance the chaotic with the controlled without looking back.
As elements pull at each other and assemble like Tetris, the elements that compose my drawings change. Even when familiar faces appear or I deliberately weave in fragments of personal memory, I don’t intend to convey a clear narrative or direct message.
My drawings are influenced by many renowned artists: Egon Schiele, Goya, Ensor, Bosch, Lucian Freud, Italian Renaissance painters, contemporary illustrators like Taiyō Matsumoto and Nicolas de Crécy, photographers like Diane Arbus and Nan Goldin, and more recently Alessandra Sanguinetti and Alec Soth.
In recent years, I’ve been drawn to dance, theater, martial arts, parades, costumes, and all kinds of mythology.
