Concept

Masaki Ishikawa is a Japanese artist who lives and works in Glasgow. He is interested in the imitation, fabrication and distribution of images, e.g. images used in mass-produced postcards and posters circulating in the marketplace, photographs in travel magazines, and 3D models distributed for free. His interest in these images is the distance between the viewer and the image, the sentimentality and the contrasting proximity of the other’s gaze to the widely circulated image. Considering his interest in image, Ishikawa’s painting practice focuses on how the visual medium of the image interferes with the memories of others.
