Concept
With the proliferation of the internet and the impact of COVID-19, opportunities for face-to-face interaction online have accelerated exponentially. At the same time, limited sensory experiences with diminished directness have increased across all forms of communication. A video showing only the upper half of a person’s body on a computer screen does not reveal their height, gestures, or bearing.
I have become aware of the various gaps and lack of directness that exist as two sides of the same coin as convenience.
In modern times, subjects often appear to be clearly visible, yet lack substance. While creating work, I think about developing and presenting a sensibility unique to the contemporary age by incorporating multilayered and uncertain forms as well as fluid sensations into a single picture plane.
