gap

biscuit gallery, a contemporary art commercial gallery located on Shibuya Ward Shoto Culture Street (Shibuya Ward, Shoto), will hold a two-person exhibition “gap” by contemporary art artists Yousuke Yamanouchi and Ryota Watanabe.

The exhibition runs from April 21, 2022 (Thursday) to May 1, 2022 (Sunday).

 

Yousuke Yamanouchi, welcoming his first solo exhibition of 2022, has been working alone in an atelier in the Kanto suburbs, confronting painting as if rejecting interaction with others, and has created many new works for this exhibition. In addition to the previously presented “Epidermis Series,” “Portrait Series,” and “Abstract Series,” over 30 works will appear in biscuit gallery’s exhibition space, including the newly presented “Not Skin Series.”

Ryota Watanabe’s exhibition marks his first full-scale show in half a year since his debut solo exhibition in the fall of 2021.
Ryota Watanabe, who has a unique creative style of painting by placing paint on the teeth of a cutter blade, will continue to expand his unique worldview by incorporating various motifs in this exhibition.

In this exhibition “gap,” we hope you will enjoy a viewing experience unique to a two-person show by contrasting the fluctuations and duality of expressions presented by each artist.

Ryota Watanabe | Ryota Watanabe

Born in Saitama Prefecture, 1998
Graduated from Tohoku University of Art and Design, Faculty of Art, Department of Fine Art, 2021
Enrolled in Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School, Sixth Laboratory, 2021
Recipient of the 66th Saitama Prefectural Art Exhibition Sankei Newspaper Prize (2016) and the Grand Prize for “Outline of Twenty Years” organized by Rokkatei and planned by Nakamura Nai Art Village (2018).

Solo exhibitions include “Horizon” (Lloyd Works Gallery, Tokyo, 2021), and group exhibitions include “heso Exhibition” (Historic House heso, Yamagata, 2020) and “One FACE Exhibition” (Lloyd Works Gallery, Tokyo, 2021).
