Statement
In spring I think of winter, and in autumn I think of summer. There is emotion in what passes away, and in my daily life I have been drawn to slight waverings and sensations. Surroundings and memories, many relationships sway together, and I paint the moment before these events and emotions become words.
In my works, figures appear repeatedly within landscapes, but I somehow avoid explaining events or emotions, and no clear narrative is depicted. I value the blank spaces and uncertainty of what is not drawn, and within these slight gestures and compositional movements, narratives lie hidden. In the landscapes and human figures that exist there dwell the transient seasons beyond consciousness, worries about human relationships, and quiet emotion. With blurred outlines and scenes that extend beyond the frame of the painting, even the undepicted portions encompass the work and attempt to express the inherent obscurity of the world. In this way, I want to paint works that move those who see them to melancholy, while simultaneously making them feel somewhat enriched.
