Concept

The works of Emika Tsunoda often feature human faces or parts of the body, which naturally draw the viewer’s attention. For her, the human figure is merely one of the compositional elements, just another piece of the puzzle. However, when human figures are used, they inadvertently create a narrative on the canvas, contrary to the artist’s intentions. It is through the tension and fusion of these elements that her paintings transcend the mere reproduction of three-dimensional space, establishing themselves as independent entities on the two-dimensional plane.

Statement

By depicting the rustling of the forest, the wind blowing through it, and the soft sunlight that gently envelops the flowers and plants, and the feel and atmosphere of the air, he attempts to create a landscape in the exhibition space.
Each time, he selects and cares for the texture and materiality of the painting so that the feel and atmosphere of the landscape, and the unique qualities and scenes of the motifs complement each other.
By layering soft, fine-grained fabric or scraping it away, the aspects of the flowers and air that emerge create a pictorial space with physical perspective, and give rise to the presence of flowers and the light and air that surrounds them.
