Concept
In Emika Tsunoda’s works, human faces and parts of the body appear, and their images captivate the viewer’s eye. For Tsunoda, the human image is merely one formal element, a piece of composition, yet the composition employing human images generates narrativity contrary to the artist’s intention. As these elements compete and merge, the painting transcends a mere reproduction of three-dimensional space and becomes an autonomous entity as a flat surface.
