Artist Statement
In the sweltering heat with stifling air, seeking coolness and quietness, I began creating mostly from sunset and sometimes continued until dawn. I will be exhibiting works created primarily during the time when the advancing night breaks and the sky’s color just begins to take on a faint hue.
Tracing back my memories related to “sand,” which I use as one of my materials, what remains in my memory is the sand in a flowerpot at my childhood home that I saw when I was young. Though flowerpots are small, that small world viewed from the urban perspective sparked my interest in nature.
Drawings I make daily on the sandy beach near my studio become blurred or disappear the next day due to wind, rain, and tidal changes. Sand, which does not retain the same form, is felt as something simple, indefinite, and ambiguous. Though so light and small that it easily swirls up, when placed on canvas, the resistance I feel and the grainy texture created when mixed with paint is felt as certain resistance, spurring the primal desire to draw.
Recently, my consciousness has shifted from creating works (object-like things) to the act of “drawing.” From this, I took two words—”dawn” and “drawn”—and titled this exhibition “Dawn + Drawn.”

Creates works that project those living in the interstices of the times and social currents. Capturing the unique sense of floating and elusiveness that contemporary people possess, she employs sand-like materials as an intermediary existence between urban and natural environments.
She develops a series that raises lines drawn from drawings and works using pastels.
The creatures that appear are depicted simultaneously as reflections of herself observing a society intersecting with rapidly changing times, and as the viewer themselves.

열기가 가득한 무더위 속에서 시원함과 고요함을 찾으며, 제작은 대대로 일몰부터 시작하여 새벽까지 이어지기도 했습니다. 진행되는 밤이 새고 하늘의 색이 조금씩 물들기 시작하는 시간까지 제작한 작품을 중심으로 전시합니다.
소재의 하나로 사용하고 있는 “모래”에 관한 기억을 거슬러 올라가면 기억에 남아 있는 것은 어린 시절 본 실집에 있는 화분 안의 모래입니다. 화분이란 작은 것이지만, 도시에서 보는 그 작은 세계가 자연이라는 것에 흥미를 갖게 해주었습니다.
날마다 아틀리에 근처에 있는 모래밭에 그리는 드로잉은 다음 날이 되면 바람이나 비, 조수의 만조와 간조에 의해 흐려지거나 사라지고 있습니다. 같은 형태를 유지하지 않는 모래는 소박하고 정해지지 않은 모호한 존재로 느껴집니다. 금방 날려 버릴 정도로 가볍고 작은 모래이지만, 캔버스에 올렸을 때의 수감각, 물감과 섞였을 때의 까칠까칠한 질감은 확실한 저항으로 느껴지며, 그린다는 근원적인 욕구를 자극해줍니다.
요즘 작품(물체 같은 것)을 만든다는 의식에서 “그린다”는 의식으로 변화했습니다. 그런 일로부터 “새벽”과 “그리다”의 두 단어를 취해 「Dawn + Drawn」이라는 전시회의 제목을 붙였습니다.
