Concept

Japanese glass artist Ayano Yoshizumi has a strong interest in treating glass as a material for expression. Using the relationship between color and space as an absolute tool, she creates works as three-dimensional canvases that traverse the boundary between art and craft. This conceptual work is strongly influenced by Fauvism and Minimalism, incorporating her emotionally expressive use of color and an approach that embraces the serendipity of melted glass.
The spatial relationship between the interior and exterior of blown glass is constructed with the Japanese cultural aesthetic of “ma” (negative space), giving her works depth and dimension.
