Concept
Creates primarily using pro wrestling as a motif, employing Japanese painting techniques. By depicting using traditional Japanese painting styles and techniques, the work attempts to make manifest the “aesthetic formality” inherent in the motif. Additionally, wrestlers cultivate robust bodies and minds through rigorous daily training. There is a certain sublimity to their appearance that makes one wonder if something sacred dwells within it. By emphasizing the magnitude of their existence, the artist hopes they become a kind of “auspicious symbol” that receives the pain and suffering of those who view it.
