Concept
Life is often spoken of as something abundant and beautiful on the surface. Yet in reality, the gestures and actions required to continue living, and the costs that accompany them, can at times appear ugly or grotesque.
My view of life is rooted not only in its beautiful aspects, but also in sensing “life” within things that seem to stand in opposition to it, such as decay and death.
The swirling movements of blown glass and the clustered forms I incorporate as motifs may sometimes appear unsettling. However, through the inherent brilliance of glass, they simultaneously acquire a simple kind of beauty.
I believe that even my own negative perception of life is transformed through the filter of glass into something different, eventually returning to the feeling that life itself is rich and abundant.
