【WEEK01】Kato Solo Exhbition “Tales of Things with Form”
biscuit gallery (Shinjuku) will be holding a solo exhibition by contemporary artist Kato titled “Tales of Things with Form” This exhibition will be held from Wednesday, October 29 to Monday, November 3 (a national holiday), and will be open every day during the exhibition period.
This will be the Kato’s second solo exhibition at biscuit gallery, held for the first time in about two and a half years. He will also be exhibiting his sculptural works for the first time.
Lately, I’ve been painting more things with form.
In my works, the motifs emerge as forms through the use of lines.
For this exhibition, I also created three-dimensional works made of ceramics.
Since three-dimensional works have no lines, I create form by kneading clay with my hands.
Although the methods are different, I believe that paintings and sculptures are similar in regards to how form is shaped.
While I was developing my pieces I went back and forth between the mindset of creating three-dimensional works and the mindset of creating two-dimensional works, so the resulting pieces may feel like a mixture of both.
Through this process of creation, I aim to postulate more on the notion of form and to create more pieces with forms.
