Statement
The lonely death of a neighbor became the catalyst for my desire to understand what comes before and after death, or perhaps what exists in between.
I know no one who can speak from experience.
No one truly knows. That uncertainty itself feels almost like a longing.
My neighbor’s room was cleared out with startling ease.
As naturally as morning turns to night,
as casually as curtains sway in the wind,
it all happened so quietly that it almost felt unreal, like a dream.
I find myself drawn to the ambiguity and transience of such events, and I transform those emotional landscapes into paintings.
